Safeguarding Children in the Community
Today, we are sharing an important and deeply moving conversation centred on the safeguarding of children within our community.
We will be speaking with a local mother who lives with Multiple Sclerosis, as she reflects on the life-changing impact a traumatic incident has had on her family. Her young daughter was brutally attacked by a dog, an event that has left lasting physical and emotional effects for both child and parent.
This interview aims to sensitively explore:
The realities faced by families living with long-term health conditions
The emotional and practical impact of serious incidents involving children
The importance of safeguarding, awareness, and prevention within shared community spaces
The need for stronger understanding, responsibility, and support networks
By giving space to lived experience, this conversation seeks to raise awareness and encourage thoughtful dialogue around child safety, community responsibility, and how we can better protect and support vulnerable families.
This is not shared for shock, but for understanding, learning, and positive change.

A Message on Community Safety and Awareness
A deeply distressing incident occurred on 16th November involving a young child who was attacked by two uncontrolled dogs.
Witnesses reported that the owner was not present at the time, leaving the dogs unattended and free to cause harm.
Two brave men who were driving past saw the attack, stopped their car, and ran toward the scene without hesitation. Their courage and quick action helped to fight off the dogs and save the child’s life.
The child was taken to a Birmingham hospital, where she is now undergoing surgery.
This traumatic event has left a profound impact on the child, her mother, and the entire family. Hearing a child cry out, “I’m going to die,” is something no parent should ever have to experience. The fear, pain, and shock endured by both mother and daughter are unimaginable.
This is not just a story—it is a powerful reminder that despite every effort we make to protect our children, there are situations caused by the negligence of others that put lives at risk.
Safety in our communities must be a shared responsibility.
Tragically, this incident happened to Valma’s niece’s young daughter.
We share this not to spread fear, but to raise awareness, encourage responsible dog ownership, and emphasise the
importance of community vigilance.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the child, her mother, and the entire family during this incredibly difficult time.
We also honor the bravery of the two men whose actions prevented an even worse outcome.
