Carers Hub
The Carers Hub at Bramingham Community Engagement Hub provides essential support and resources for carers in our community. This dedicated space offers a range of activities and meetings designed to support those who care for others, helping to alleviate the challenges of caregiving. Our group sessions provide a safe and understanding environment where carers can share experiences, gain valuable insights, and find emotional support.

Supporting Unpaid Carers — Because You Deserve Care Too
If you provide care for a family member, spouse, partner, or friend, you are recognised as a Carer. Many carers don’t realise that their vital role entitles them to support under the Care Act 2014 — including a Carers Assessment that focuses on promoting your physical, emotional, and psychological wellbeing.
You should not have to ask for this support — it is your right, regardless of who you care for or how many hours you dedicate.
Why does the Carers Hub Exists?
The Bedfordshire Carers Hub was created to support unpaid carers and ensure their voices are heard.
Caring can be rewarding, but it can also be isolating and emotionally draining.
Many carers struggle to access services or find that the support available falls below standard.
As a social worker, nurse, and carer, I have seen first-hand the challenges people face when they are left without adequate help or representation. Too often, carers feel invisible — without a voice in decisions that deeply affect their lives.
That’s why we’ve created the Carers Blog — a dedicated space for carers to share their experiences, speak openly, and influence change. This is a platform where carers’ voices can be seen and heard by others who understand, and by commissioners, policymakers, and government officials who need to listen.
Raising Awareness and Influencing Change
The Bedfordshire Carers Hub has been supported by Dame Philippa Russell, Vice President of Carers UK,
who has long championed the rights of carers across the UK.
Through research and advocacy — including the Hospital Discharge Project (2014) chaired by
Dame Philippa Russell — we have highlighted the serious gaps in care during hospital discharge and the lack of coordinated support.
Real carers shared distressing stories:
-
A husband discharged from hospital without proper care, arriving home in distress.
-
Carers left without any package of support following hospital discharge.
-
Male carers struggling with depression and unemployment due to the pressures of caring.
These experiences reveal a consistent pattern — carers often feel let down by the system, despite promises of recognition and support.
True change can only happen when carers are empowered to speak out and their voices are unified. Caring should not come at the cost of your own health, happiness, or independence. We are here to make sure your voice counts.
Empowerment, Support, and Wellbeing
At the Bedfordshire Carers Hub, our mission is to help you care without losing yourself.
We want every carer to feel supported, respected, and valued — able to live a quality life without fear of burnout,
depression, or physical injury.
We also recognise how caring can impact employment, social life, and health — and we’re here to help you balance those challenges.
Our community extends to Bedfordshire Health Radio, where the programme “Your Body Is Your Temple” — hosted by Valma James — gives carers across the region a voice.
With over 41 million carers nationwide, our collective strength can bring about real change.
“Caring is a gift — so is your health.” — Valma James
The Male Carers Support Group at Bramingham Community Engagement Hub
is a unique space dedicated to supporting male carers.
Recognizing the specific challenges faced by men in caregiving roles, our group offers a platform for sharing experiences, receiving support, and building friendships.
Our motto, "A Community that Lives Together Grows Together,"
reflects our belief in unity and collective strength.
